One of the Bibles used when Vice President Kamala Harris took the oath of office, was the personal Bible of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black, United States Supreme Court justice.
Vice President Harris requested it because she thought of him as, "one of my heroes and inspirations."
Prior to his Supreme Court appointment, Mr. Marshall was the attorney who, in 1954, argued before the United States Supreme Court, the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. The civil-rights action pertained to racially-segregated schools.
The ruling was, "Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
