The Incipient Pandemic

This is a photograph and story from March 20, 2020. We were dazed and confused by the incipient pandemic:

"Tuesday - I photographed this vacant bar. The lone employee started her job 3 weeks ago, and was now being laid off due to the COVID-19 issue. Friday would be her last day.

Wednesday - I found a $20. bill in a parking lot.

Thursday - I returned to the bar intending to give the $20. bill to the woman being laid off, knowing it would be appreciated. She was no longer there.

About 60 food-and-beverage employees were laid off this week, and although she was scheduled to work until Friday, she was gone Thursday."
