David Von Drehle

David Von Drehle is Editor-at-Large for Time magazine. Cover stories he has written include the United States Supreme Court's health care decision, and the death of Osama bin Laden. It was he who wrote the story when Barack Obama was named Time Person of the Year in 2008.

David has worked for The Denver Post, The Miami Herald, and was New York Bureau Chief for the Washington Post.

This photograph was made December 6, 2013, the 148th anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution. The amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude. David's most recent book, Rise to Greatness: Abraham Lincoln and America's Most Perilous Year, examines ways President Lincoln dealt with the core issue of slavery.

David holds a master's degree from Oxford University in Oxford, England where he was a Marshall Scholar. The four books he has authored have garnered many awards. He is married to Karen Ball, former White House correspondent for The Daily News in New York City.
