Vice President Kamala Harris Requests Thurgood Marshall's Bible For Inauguration

This is a continuation of my posts of the Brown v. Board of Education civil-rights case regarding racially-segregated schools:

One of the Bibles used when Vice President Kamala Harris took the oath of office was the personal Bible of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court justice. Vice President Harris requested it because she thought of him as, "one of my heroes and inspirations."

Prior to his Court appointment, Mr. Marshall was the attorney who, in 1954, argued before the United States Supreme Court the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. The ruling was, "Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."

Pictured is Monroe Elementary School, where nine-year-old Linda Brown attended school after being refused enrollment at the segregated school close to her in 1951.
