This organized camp for people with no homes in Lawrence, Kansas, is just west of the Kansas River and close to downtown.
I chatted with one of the residents who is happy to live here because homeless people are not liked in society, and it gives him a place to go. He thanked me repeatedly, explaining it was tax dollars and donations from citizens that keeps the camp operating.
Another gentleman, who escorted me, and a third in the donation center, were delightful and informative about the project.
The nearest trailer on the left provides showers and restrooms for men, the second trailer is the same for women, and the third is where they wash their clothing.
On the right are tents in which they live, containing a cot and heater. At the donation tent, residents may pick up food and hot drinks.
