His mother let him and a friend work their way through the crowd to the edge of the stage. Collier was enthusiastically playing air guitar, when frontman Dave Grohl spotted him and invited him on-stage.
Grohl asked Collier if he played the guitar, and if he knew any songs. Collier said he knew a lot of Metallica songs. Grohl put his baby-blue Gibson guitar around Collier's neck, and let him play.
When Collier finished, Grohl, who was clearly impressed, pointed to the blue Gibson and asked Collier if he would like to keep it.
Collier is now a 13-year-old 8th grader.
I made this image when Collier was playing with sought-after Kansas City band Superstar Mafia, and that is the guitar Dave Grohl gave him.
