Bobby Bell

Bobby Bell has attended every Super Bowl game, however he will miss Super Bowl LV next week.

He played in Super Bowl IV for the Kansas City Chiefs, and attended all other years as a fan, and honoree.

Bobby played football at the University of Minnesota, leaving to play professionally before finishing his degree.

Fifty years after leaving college he returned. In 2015, he completed the last 3 classes he needed, and graduated from the University of Minnesota.

One might think Wreaths Across America is active only in December. The organization is actually busy all year honoring military veterans.

AMC Theatres

AMC Theatres dodged bankruptcy and will be open in 2021 thanks to cash from investors and a line of credit.

There are two caveats: People must be vaccinated to control the pandemic thus being able to fill theatres, and landlords must lower rents.

Police Memorial

Anti-law enforcement vandals spray-painted the base of this sculpture at the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Headquarters. The memorial pays tribute to police officers of Kansas City
who gave their lives in the discharge of their duties.

The base is now wrapped in plastic to prevent defacement.

Vice President Kamala Harris Requests Thurgood Marshall's Bible For Inauguration

This is a continuation of my posts of the Brown v. Board of Education civil-rights case regarding racially-segregated schools:

One of the Bibles used when Vice President Kamala Harris took the oath of office was the personal Bible of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court justice. Vice President Harris requested it because she thought of him as, "one of my heroes and inspirations."

Prior to his Court appointment, Mr. Marshall was the attorney who, in 1954, argued before the United States Supreme Court the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. The ruling was, "Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."

Pictured is Monroe Elementary School, where nine-year-old Linda Brown attended school after being refused enrollment at the segregated school close to her in 1951.

Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka

The United States Supreme Court's landmark civil-rights decision in 1954 regarding Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, began here:

"We lived in a mixed neighborhood, but when school time came I would have to take the school bus and go clear across town and the white children I played with would go to this other school." -Linda Brown, reflecting on her life as a nine year old.

Brown vs Board of Education

#BlackHistory #AmericanHistory

Sumner Elementary School, Topeka, Kansas, refused to enroll Oliver Brown's daughter, Linda, in 1951. Sumner was closest to their home, however it was racially segregated, requiring Linda to ride a bus to Monroe Elementary School, a Black school.

He sued the board of education, and lost.

Oliver and Linda appealed to the United States Supreme Court, and in 1954 the Court determined racial segregation to be unconstitutional.

Monroe Elementary School, pictured, is a designated National Historic Landmark.

Christine's Place - Kansas City

#Human Trafficking

Christine's Place is a drop-in center in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri, for victims of sexual trafficking.

These connected buildings are being remodeled as quickly as possible because the need is great; they have already helped 71 women.

Christine's Place provides hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, hygiene products, clothing, shoes, and access to health care.

The upstairs space will be a crisis center for those brought in by law enforcement.

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Runaways must be between the ages of 12 and 21 years old, a Runaway Report must already be on file, and runaways must first call National Runaway Safeline at 800 786-2929.

Each year, this project helps approximately 400 individuals.

Dr. David McGee

Dr. David McGee, a Chiropractor who is now retired, has been handing $100. bills and Little Debbie cupcakes to needy people in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, for nearly four decades.

His life has been filled with the trauma of poverty, relatives who took their lives, and being assaulted because of his sexual orientation.

Candle

When Jacqueline Kennedy was a 31-year-old First Lady of the United States, she enjoyed throwing White House dinner parties.

Her request of the staff was they light these candles in all the rooms. The fragrance was Cyprés, as is this one.
