My subjects are newsmakers: Actors who have starred in Academy Award-winning movies, Olympic gold medalists, book authors, runway fashion models, titans of business, U.S. Surgeon General, and two astronauts. I am an active member of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television & Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

Soon after Wyatt and Sarah (#WomenYouShouldKnow) began performing as The Nite Owls, their debut single, Color, received Semi-Finalist placement in the "Song Of The Year" songwriting competition.
This accolade caught the attention of an A&R representative for Columbia Records, leading to a major label showcase.

Joe Amrine spent 27 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of murder; 17 of those years were on death row.
The Missouri Attorney General argued to the Missouri Supreme Court, that Joe should be executed, even if he was innocent.
It took years, however when it was confirmed the red substance on Joe's pants was paint, not body fluids, he was finally exonerated and released.
I published a story and photograph of Joe in 2016, and I concluded with these words, "He is back in society, and doing well."
Now, I understand Joe is not doing well. He has been out of prison 20 years, however he is living in poverty, partly because he suffers from severe PTSD after a near-lynching. Presently, he is living is a house lacking running water.
Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty is sponsoring an anniversary event Friday, July 28, 2023, where they will raise money for Joe. Here is the Facebook link for information: Joe Amrine Event.
They have also set up a GoFundMe campaign: Joe Amrine - GoFundMe.

I first noticed Michael George Murphy in the movie M*A*S*H (1970).
He starred with Jill Clayburgh in An Unmarried Woman (1978), Woody Allen cast him as Yale with Diane Keaton in Manhattan (1979), and you saw him in The Year of Living Dangerously (1982).
There are 114 credits on his résumé, and Michael has been cast in more Robert Altman feature films and television projects than any other actor, beginning with Combat! (1962).

In July 2019, United States Army veteran, and co-founder of Veterans Community Project, Brandonn Mixon, was featured on Queer Eye (Netflix, Season 4, "Soldier Returns Home").
Brandon served in Afghanistan.
The Queer Eye team helped Brandonn finish his own home, upgrade his professional look, and learn to cope with his service-connected traumatic brain injury.
Here is the official trailer: Queer Eye, Season 4, 2019.

I made this photograph of my friend, actress Nicole Dolci, in 1996.
Nicole was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2008, and died in Hollywood in 2009, at the age of 34.
Expect to see this post yearly, as a reminder to be screened for colorectal cancer.

Actress Tatum O'Neal suffered a severe stroke in 2020. She is still regaining her strength, memory, and ability to write.
Look for her story in the July 17, 2023 issue of People magazine. I was not involved in this interview.
It was 50 years ago she starred in the acclaimed movie Paper Moon (1973), and for that role she won an Academy Award. She was 10 years old, and remains the youngest winner of an Oscar.
Paper Moon was shot in Kansas; Hays, Plainville, Gorham, McCracken, White Cloud, Wilson, and in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Rube and Nina Goeringer began making homemade candy and ice cream in 1985 at their store and factory, Georgetown Valley Candy Company.
Not long after starting their business, weatherman Willard Scott showed on of their chocolate bars on The Today Show (NBC) during a Christmas broadcast.
While chatting, Nina smiled at me and quietly said, "I want to make sure you know we've been married 60 years."
