Military Appreciation Month

May is Military Appreciation Month.

I thank Brigadier General Bryan W. Wampler, United States Army, Retired, for two reasons:

- for your military leadership and service

- for asking if there was something you could do for me, as you expressed gratitude for the many photographs I had made for you.

A week earlier, I had applied for the White House Photographer position, so I suggested you put a good word in for me with the President.

We laughed at my suggestion. You laughed harder.

Breastfeeding

It was easy to think of a few reasons mothers / parents need baby formula.

I discovered two-dozen cogent medical reasons some mothers and babies cannot, or should not, breastfeed.

And, some babies are raised by Dads.

Update, May, 2022:

Last winter, Mike performed in memory-care and dementia facilities. Residents showed little expression, until he started playing,

They began mouthing the words, then singing along with him, because they remembered the music and words to the songs he played from the 1950's and 1960's.

Here is my original post from June, 2021:

"I met Mike Ashley in the late 1990's, when photographing his daughter, Elisabeth, for the cover of her CD.

Mike performed with his guitar until the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the spring of 2020, and bookings became scarce.

His neighbor suggested Mike perform in the neighbor's driveway, and Mike's second daughter offered to stream the performance live.

Mike was a hit; viewers booked him for 65 outdoor performances that summer.

He has now played in Denver, Des Moines, Jackson Hole, and Colorado Springs. He will be in Pebble Beach soon, and is very happy.

His daughter, Elisabeth, works for Keith Urban in Nashville."

Elliott Threatt

Every year, comedian Elliott Threatt celebrates his birthday the same way: He gives back to the community.

This year, Elliott provided lunch and birthday cake to front-line workers at Synergy Services, Inc.'s Synergy Youth Resiliency Center in North Kansas City, Missouri.

The organization offers help and support to learn life skills. They also offer counseling for youth in crisis, and there is a free medical and dental clinic on site.

Last year, Elliott collaborated with Hope Faith Ministries, and commissioned Minsky's Pizza to deliver 200 pizzas.
